Ryo was born in Osaka in 1979. He is the oldest of three boys. He has autism. In kindergarten he was captivated by elevated trains, which he drew and still draws in three-dimensional perspective from memory. He fell in love with their movement, colors, signage and announcements, which he later integrated wtih clearly drafted Japanese captions. he also draws portraits of jazz musicians, which he has listened to since he was two; the letters of his captions are written stroke-wise, like the japanese kanji and kata he first learne to write.
